Introducing of MATT
The aim of the Hungarian Atheist Society (MATT) is to create an atheist community that embodies an atheist worldview based on scientifically proven facts and secular ethics.
In the interests of freedom of speech and secularism, it is important that atheists proudly assert their worldview, show their presence, and not allow popular religions to suppress their belief in the scientific method, critical thinking, and freedom of religion.
Our association carries out a number of promotional and educational activities through lectures, debates, publications, and personal and online communities.
The opinion pieces and articles published on ateizmus.hu do not necessarily reflect the position of the Hungarian Atheist Society (if we have a unified position at all), as we strive to provide a platform for a wide spectrum of Hungarian atheist and humanist ideas and opinions. We welcome contributions from atheist and humanist authors.

In recent decades, atheism has become a dirty word in Hungary due to irresponsible statements made by powerful and influential figures in politics. Due to the atheist community’s previous lack of organization, atheist ideas and ideals could not be communicated as effectively as those of their critics, who were supported by billions of tax dollars. By becoming organized, we want to change this and reduce the above inequalities. You can support our work with a donation on the following page. Unfortunately, we have no chance of receiving state support, even though there are more citizens in Hungary who identify as atheists than those who identify as religious.
